Anyone have a bolt action 22lr?

I went to the gun range today with a friend and got to shoot his Remington model 513. I think they were discountinued in 1968, but what a nice rifle to learn to shoot with. The rifle was very accurate.

Not sure if I should look for one in decent shape or go with something like the current model 5 from remington with the 22" barrel. http://www.remington.com/products/fi...model_five.asp

Anyone have an opinion on currently available bolt-action 22lrs, or think I should get an old 513 Target?

I joined a private pistol club, but they will let you shoot 22 rifles there. I have ruger 10/22's, but I really enjoyed shooting the bolt action with open sights.

Maybe the savage Model MARK II-FVT with Peep Sights? http://www.savagearms.com/markiifvt.htm

I am a fan of the fine quality CZ 452 ZKM series bolt rifles.

I also own a Marlin 981T with tube magazine which I am happy with...

I like the little davey cricket rifles. Taught my kids with these short youth rifles. I still shoot it quite often. The stock peep sights are very straight and they can be scoped. They are the perfect size for strolling and are big rifle accurate. Oh yeah can be had for around 100frns.

I'm very happy with my Marlin 925 bolt gun. It has a 7 round box magazine, 4x32 scope.

I also have a Marlin 925 bolt action .22 that I am very happy with. In my opinion you can't really go wrong with any of the Marlin bolt action .22's. They're some of the most accurate out of the box .22's on the planet.

If you are ever in a position to shoot in a NRA sponsored match and can offer proof, you may be eligible to buy a rifle from the DCM (Department of Civilian Markmanship). They sell surplus and old military rifles. In addition to Springfields and M-1's, they occasionally sell some great 22 target rifles that were used in sniper training and for positional practice. I've got two, a Remington 541-X and a Kimber 82, both fresh from the factory in the original packing for a fraction of their worth.

Thanks for all of the great information. I've been leaning toward CZ lately, I'm just not sure which model. I'm thinking an American or Varmint. I just wish there were some fixed sites on them.

The CZ 452 series is a very nice .22 bolt.
Savage makes a nice bolt as well (CZ is nicer)

I have a Winchester 121Y (single shot) which was given to my from my dad on my 13th birthday. It is more accurate than any semi-auto I've shot. I think he paid $55 at a pawnbroker for it.

Re: Anyone have a bolt action 22lr?

Interested in finding one of those "Chipmunks" that were around a few years ago. Is that Davy Crockett simular? The idea of a shortened light weight 22 bolt appealls to me. Would prefer one with a clip or a tube mag. A bug out 22 rifle shouldn't need weigh more than three pounds.

I currently have an old Ithaca Model 15 semi-auto from the late 50s-early 60s. It will shoot ten shoot 100 yard groups of under 1.5", but must weigh eight+ pounds scoped.

Hey Hoot ! Yes the cricket is similar to the chipmonk. They are two stage single shots. I don't know of any youth bolt action that are clip feed right off the top of my head. The chipmonk imo is a bit better made than the cricket the reason is the crickets do have a plastic front sight . The early ones did not but that was changed.
